The Direct Energy Essentials Plans ("Plan") are provided by NRG Protects Inc. Independent contractors will be performing various services under the Plan. Customers must sign up for a 1-year commitment (the "Initial Term").There is a 30-day waiting period before coverage begins under the Repair Plans. Unless we elect not to renew the Plan, upon expiration of the Initial Term, the Plan will automatically renew at the standard rate and terms unless the customer opts out of the auto-renewal option in writing by mail at P.O. Box 2309, Houston, TX 77252-2309, by email at cancel@directenergyprotects.com or by calling us at (855) 334-3577. Sales tax will be added in select states.

Maintenance Essentials: Regular maintenance is critical in helping to increase the lifespan of your equipment and keep your system running at peak efficiency. Our maintenance plans include an annual checkup by an experienced technician to help keep your system in good shape.

Repair Essentials: Unexpected breakdowns of your heating system can be stressful and expensive. This plan provides worry-free coverage with no deductibles or service visit charges if your covered system needs repair. Requesting service is easy and can be done online 24/7.

Repair & Maintenance Essentials: Get all the benefits of our individual Maintenance and Repair Essentials plans at a budget-friendly price.

Repair & Maintenance Essentials PLUS: The age of your heating equipment isn't the only factor to consider in deciding when to replace your system. If your system is starting to break down more frequently, it may be time to replace it. This plan offers a $500 replacement credit if the repair technician determines replacement of your covered equipment is necessary.

What is covered by the plans?

Maintenance plans include:

  • One gas furnace, oil or electric heater or boiler, including a heat pump, or geothermal system
  • One maintenance visit by an authorized technician
  • No age restrictions on equipment
  • Coverage begins immediately with no waiting period

Repair plans include:

  • Repairs to parts in one gas furnace, oil or electric heater or boiler, including a heat pump, or geothermal system
  • $500 in repairs per service visit, up to $2,000 total for your contract term
  • Professional service from experienced technicians
  • No service visit charges, deductibles or age restrictions

The Repair & Maintenance plan combines all the benefits of the repair-only and maintenance-only plans described above at lower price than if the plans were purchased separately.

Our Repair PLUS plan includes all of the above, plus a $500 credit towards a system replacement if deemed necessary by the authorized repair technician.

What items are excluded from coverage by the plans?

Maintenance plans: These plans cover maintenance only and do not cover any repair or replacement.

Repair plans: The following items are excluded from coverage: ductwork and grilles, zoning system dampers, flues, vents, drain lines, air and fuel filters, electronic air cleaners, humidifiers, condensate pumps, window air conditioners and consumable items, such as

  • refrigerant
  • filters
  • batteries
  • fuses
  • plumbing, geothermal ground loop, gas and electrical piping to and from the unit, including valves

These are repair plans only and do not provide replacement coverage.

The Repair & Maintenance plan excludes the same items listed under the Repair plan. There is no replacement coverage included in this plan.

Our Repair PLUS plan excludes the same items listed under the Repair plan.

What options do I have to pay for this service?

We accept bank drafts (EFT/ACH) and credit/debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover).

How long am I covered by the plan?

You are covered under the plan for 12 months. We may elect to renew your plan by notifying you of the renewal terms (including any price changes) within 60 days prior to expiration of coverage. Unless we elect not to renew your plan, you will be automatically renewed for another one-year term at the then standard rate and terms.

If you do not want to automatically renew your plan, you may notify us in writing prior to the plan expiration date.

When does the plan coverage start?

There is a 30-day waiting period before coverage begins during the initial term year for the repair plans. If you choose the maintenance only plan, coverage begins immediately.

Can I cancel my plan if I'm not satisfied?

You can cancel your plan at any time.

If you cancel your plan within 30 days of your coverage start date and you have not received any services under the plan, you're entitled to full refund of what you have paid for the plan. If you cancel more than 30 days after the start date and have not received services under the plan, you will be entitled to a pro rated refund for any payments you've made for the unexpired term of your contract. If you have received services under the plan and you cancel before the end of the 12-month term, you may owe the lesser of the amount due for the unexpired term or the cost of the services under the plan.
