Frequently Asked Questions

How does an Electric Essentials Plan help me?

If something goes wrong with your electrical system due to age or ordinary wear and tear, your basic homeowners insurance is unlikely to cover the repairs. Our plans help offset these costs and provide the peace of mind of knowing who to call when you have an electrical problem. You'll get reliable service from experienced electricians to help get your system working again.

What kind of plans can I choose from?

Maintenance Essentials: Our maintenance plan covers an annual inspection and panel tuneup. This helps ensure your home's electrical system is in safe working order, and may even detect small issues before they become big problems.

Repair Essentials: This plan covers repairs to your general wiring, fuse boxes, circuit breaker panels, circuit breakers, switches and outlets. It also covers low voltage wiring for hardwired doorbells, alarm systems, and smoke and CO detectors.

Repair & Maintenance Essentials: You get all the benefits of both the repair and maintenance plans together for one economical price.

What do the plans cover?

The Electric Maintenance Essentials plan includes:

  • One annual safety inspection and panel tuneup
  • No service visit charge or deductibles
  • No age restrictions on wiring or equipment

The Electric Repair Essentials plan includes:

  • Repairs to general wiring, meter boxes owned by you, fuse boxes (primary and secondary), circuit breaker panels (primary and secondary), circuit breakers, switches, receptacles, low voltage wiring for hardwired doorbells, alarm systems, and smoke and CO detectors.

  • No service visit charge and no deductibles
  • No age restrictions on wiring or equipment

The Electric Repair & Maintenance Essentials plan includes all the benefits of both plans above.

See our coverage summary and Terms and Conditions for complete details.

What items are excluded from coverage?

The Electric Maintenance Essential plan covers maintenance only and do not cover any repairs.

The Electric Repair Essentials plan does not include repairs to or replacement of:

  • Any part of your heating or cooling system
  • Meter boxes located outside your home or owned by others

  • Telephone wiring

What options do I have to pay for the plans?

We accept bank drafts (EFT/ACH) and credit/debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover).

When does the plan coverage start, and how long am I covered?

Maintenance coverage begins when you enroll. However, there is a 30-day waiting period before your repair coverage starts. This only applies to your initial year of coverage; if you decide to renew after your first 12-month term, you won't experience any gap in coverage.

You are covered under the plan for 12 months. We may elect to renew your plan by notifying you of the renewal terms (including any price changes) within 60 days prior to expiration of coverage. Unless we elect not to renew your plan, you will be automatically renewed for another one-year term at the then standard rate and terms.

If you do not want to automatically renew your plan, you may notify us in writing prior to the plan expiration date.
Email: cancel@directenergyprotects.com
Mail: P.O. Box 2309, Houston, TX 77252-2309
You may also notify us by phone if you prefer at (855) 334-3577.

Can I cancel my plan if I'm not satisfied?

You can cancel your plan at any time.

If you cancel your plan within 30 days of your coverage start date, and you have not received any services, you're entitled to full refund of the amount you have paid. If you cancel more than 30 days after the start date and have not received services under the plan, you will be entitled to a prorated refund for any payments you've made for the unexpired term of your contract.
